The latest version of the Checkerboard Partnership launched in the summer of 2019 as part of a community effort to conserve 27,000 acres of privately owned forest in the Central Cascades. The group comprises community members, non-profit groups, local organizations, and government entities. KPRD1 has been honored to have a continued seat at the table to help voice our hopes and dreams for the future of these lands and the possible recreation opportunities. The Partnership’s mission is to connect these forests to the community, which is where KPRD1 hopes to be instrumental. The aim is to balance opportunities for personal enjoyment while supporting traditional land uses that have persisted since time immemorial.
